Walker's Cabin
It's a cozy morning in the mountains. The sun is shining and the wind is gusting through the birches around the cabin and the pines farther on. Cheerful little burbles waft over from the brook, and the birds are singing their little hearts out. Seated on the cabin's back porch, you have a front-row seat to all the loveliness. You've claimed one of the red leather club chairs, the one with the matching footstool, and made a snug nest with your book. Alex stole the one next to you and has tucked her legs under her to make a desk for the morning paper's crossword. Walker is doing his usual "sit and stare contemplatively" thing in the third chair, the one perpendicular to Alex's that makes up the short side of the seating rectangle. Every so often he'll top off his mug of coffee -- a good sign that he hasn't turned to stone. Take a deep breath and soak in the sounds of the wind.
